Cristiano Ronaldo’s Career in Retrospective

Cristiano Ronaldo nowadays is considered one of the best football players ever. He has won five champions league titles, six Ballon d’Or awards, and Domestic trophies with every team he has ever played for. On top of that, this legendary footballer won the European Championship with Portugal in 2016.

In this article, we will look at his career in retrospect.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United (MU)

Back in 2003, MU had a friendly game against Portugal’s team Sporting Lisbon. During the game, an Eighteen-year-old winger named Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro showed amazing football skills, destroying Manchester United’s defense almost single-handedly.

At that time, Manchester United was one of the best clubs in the world, dominating in England and having success in European competitions as well. The Red Devils were the current Premier League title winners and it was their eighth title Under Sir Alex Ferguson’s management.

So it was a shock when Cristiano Ronaldo with Sporting Lisbon destroyed Manchester United and won 3-1. Months before this match, United’s manager was interested in Cristiano Ronaldo and after this mesmerizing performance against his club, Ferguson finally decided to sign eighteen-year-old Portugal talent.

Cristiano Ronaldo Performance Highlights in MU

  • In those years Manchester United had too many talented players and everyone was wondering how Cristiano Ronaldo would perform under these circumstances. Against all odds, he amazed everyone.
  • Ronaldo’s speed was incomparable. He was a nightmare for the opponent’s defense because of his fast and versatile dribbling skills.
  • Besides that, Cristiano had amazing shooting ability as he was able to score many long-distance goals.
  • His debut game was against premier league team Bolton in 2003. The Red Devils won that match four to zero. After this, Ronaldo got admiration from many coaches.
  • Cristiano spent 6 amazing and productive years in Manchester United and won every single trophy he could’ve possibly won.
  • On the Individual level, he won the Ballon d’Or as he was named the best footballer in the world in 2008. He was the first Manchester United player since George Best to win this prestigious award.

Cristiano Ronaldo Joining In Real Madrid (2009)

In 2009 Cristiano Ronaldo signed with Real Madrid, the club with the most champion’s league trophies in history and one of the best football teams in the world. Real Madrid was a very prestigious club as many great players in the past played for this team, for example, Zidane, Ronaldo, Raul, Roberto Carlos, Luis Figo, and David Beckham. The transfer cost was ninety million euros.

As we already mentioned, Ronaldo’s career was spectacular in Manchester United, but it’s not comparable to the heights Cristiano achieved while playing for Real Madrid. Portugal Legend scored more than four hundred goals in four hundred and fifty games, which is a truly mesmerizing result. He also won 4 Champions league titles and 5 more Ballon d’Or’s.

Juventus Club Joining

In 2018 he signed with Juventus, one of the best clubs in Italy. He did not have the same amazing results in Turin as in United or Real Madrid, but nonetheless, he scored many goals and won domestic titles. But Juventus’s campaign in the champion’s league wasn’t good.

Cristiano Ronaldo Return to Manchester United

In 2022 it was rumored that Cristiano Ronaldo might join Manchester City.  This was very irritating news for the United fans and some of them started criticizing Ronaldo. But eventually, Sir Alex Ferguson, a person who helped Ronaldo to become a world-class star, started personal negotiations with Cristiano. A few days later it was announced that a 36-year-old Portuguese legend was coming back to his home club – Manchester United.

Today’s Manchester United is a very different team from the one Ronaldo left. Ferguson retired a decade ago, even though he remains a very influential and important figure for the Red Devils. The club’s owners are very much disliked by the fans. It’s important to mention that no manager since Ferguson’s retirement has touched the Premier League gold with Manchester United. And when Ronaldo signed with United, many fans hoped that their legend would help them win some trophies.

Ralf Rangnick: New Manager of Manchester United

But the hopes quickly diminished, because Manchester United’s performance in the first half of the Premier League season was disastrous. They lost many points and even when they were winning; it seemed undeserved as they did play horrible football. In late November after losing back-to-back games, United’s manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was replaced by German experienced manager Ralf Rangnick. Ralf is considered a good tactician. But this change didn’t help Manchester United as the team still struggles to win games.

The team definitely has many things to fix. It needs to change tactics, replace players and most importantly bring discipline both inside and outside the pitch. But with the help of a new manager Ralf Rangnick and their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, fans still have the hope that Manchester United will do well for the remainder of the season. Final wards

It’s clear that Ronaldo is getting old and even though he is in phenomenal shape right now, it won’t last permanently. United needs to find young talented players who will help the team in the long run.
